The Art Of Knitting - The Throw

This is my first ever magazine subscription. Fancy that. Getting to the age of 29 without ever having subscribed to a magazine. It's my little treat, once a month. To keep me knitting, to keep me using my hands.  It launched at the start of January, but what with being with child etc. it's taken me a while to catch up. As well as 3 patterns, a 'stitch library' and 'knitting school', each edition gives you the pattern for one 15cm square, designed to be knitted using the acrylic DK yarn supplied. All these squares will eventually form a rather delightful looking throw.
I've gone for 3.5mm needles over the recommended 4mm, as I tend to knit loosely.
Here's my first two squares, both from issue 1.

1 - Garter Stitch Square - White

2 - Stocking Stitch Square - Lipstick Pink

Six Weeks

So the first six weeks are almost over. The first six weeks of Hoot's life outside the womb, and the first six weeks of Squid being a big brother.
I won't sugar coat it. It has been hard at times. But infinitely easier than the first six weeks with Squid. This time round, we are more confident parents, more relaxed and less tired. Surprisingly! Hoot is a very content baby, she spends a lot of time cooing and smiling. Granted, she also spends a lot of time crying, but she is a baby...
Squid is a tremendous big brother. Still a little nervous. A little wary, clearly jealous at times, but gentle and loving. He strokes her head, lies on the floor next to her, holding her teeny hand when she's grumbling.
He's had a tough week - it won't be long before he begins nursery, and the first couple of induction days have been very tiring for him. But he will flourish. I know it.
Six weeks goes by so fast.
